Overview
The Academy Portal Localisation feature automatically translates the text content of your learner-facing academy portal into supported languages (currently only supports Canadian French). This means titles, descriptions, navigation labels, and other portal text will appear in the learner's chosen language — without you needing to create or manage translations manually.
How to Enable
Go to your Academy.
Navigate to Settings > General.
Scroll to the Localization section.
Toggle on "Auto-translate learner portal content".
The setting takes effect immediately. Existing content will begin translating in the background.
Note: Depending on how much content there is to translate, this process can be between 30 seconds to 5 minutes to translate an entire academy.
How It Works
When you enable the feature, all existing portal content is queued for translation automatically.
Going forward, whenever you create or update portal content (e.g. a collection name, an event title, a custom page description), it is automatically translated instantly.
Translations are generated using AI and stored for each supported language.
Learners see translated content based on the language they have selected via the language picker in the academy footer.
What Gets Translated
The following portal elements are automatically translated:
Academy details — portal title, header title, meta title, meta description, recommended content section title
Collections — collection names and descriptions, section titles and descriptions
Events — event titles, descriptions, overview descriptions, session titles and descriptions, on-demand content names and descriptions
Custom pages — page titles, descriptions, navigation titles, section titles and descriptions
Certifications and Paths — titles and descriptions
Navigation and labels — tab titles, sub-navigation page descriptions, footer link text, content label overrides, page titles
Announcement banners — banner titles, messages, and link text
Custom Registration fields
Setting the Default Language
In the same Localization section, you can set the Default Language for your academy. This is the base language that your content is authored in, and the language shown to learners who have not chosen a preference.
How Learners Choose Their Language
Learners can change their language at any time using the language selector in the academy portal footer. Once they select a language:
Their preference is saved and remembered for future visits.
All translated portal content will appear in their chosen language (currently only Canadian French).
If a translation is not yet available for a particular piece of content, the original (default language) version will be displayed.
Additional Localisation Option: Guide Translation
There is also a separate toggle: "Allow Learners to translate Guides with AI". When enabled, learners can request on-demand AI translation of individual guide (course) content. This is independent of the portal localisation feature and gives learners the ability to translate lesson content while they are viewing it.
Things to Know
If you turn off the feature, previously generated translations remain stored but will no longer be auto updated when content changes.
