This article explains how to reset a Guide a learner has failed so they can try again, where to find the option, what resetting clears, and who is able to do it.
Who this is for
Admins, and managers who look after a team.
When you'd use this
A learner fails a Guide and needs another attempt. Perhaps they had a difficult day, perhaps a question has since been reworded, or perhaps they simply misread something. Resetting hands them a clean slate on that one Guide, without disturbing anything else they're working on.
What reset does
The Guide's status returns to 'Not started', and its progress returns to 0%.
The learner's answers from their failed attempt are cleared, along with any feedback left on them.
Any score that was manually overridden is cleared, and a released grade is un-released.
The learner's retake count for the Guide is reset.
Nothing else is affected. Other content in the same Path, and everything else assigned to that learner, carries on exactly as before.
Please note: Resetting clears the learner's previous attempt. They start the Guide again from the beginning, and their earlier answers are not recoverable through the interface.
Where to find 'Reset'
The option appears anywhere you can see the learner's failed Guide:
On the Guide's own overview page, in the learner's row.
On a Path's overview, against the failed Guide inside that Path.
In a Path's assignment panel, when you open a learner's progress.
On a learner's profile, in their list of assignments.
On your team members' profiles, if you're a manager.
Resetting a failed Guide
Open the Guide overview, the Path overview, or the learner's profile.
Find the learner whose Guide you want to reset. The Guide will show as 'Failed'.
Select 'Reset' from the actions on that row. If several actions are available, you'll find 'Reset' under 'More actions'.
The Guide returns to 'Not started' and the learner can begin it again.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reset a Path, a SCORM course or a Challenge?
Not at the moment. Reset currently applies to Guides only — including Guides that sit inside a Path. Resetting the Guide does not reset the Path around it; the rest of the Path carries on as it was.
Can I reset a Guide someone passed, or one they're still working on?
No. 'Reset' only appears on Guides a learner has actually failed. If you can't see the option, check that the Guide really is showing as 'Failed'.
Does resetting remove the Guide from the learner?
No. They keep the assignment. It simply returns to 'Not started' so they can begin it again.
What happens to the rest of the learner's Path?
Nothing at all. Only the Guide you reset is affected — every other item in the Path keeps its own status.
Can I undo a reset?
No. Resetting clears the learner's previous attempt, so please make sure you've selected the right learner and the right Guide before confirming.
