The MCP is included with Learn:Up at no extra cost. You only ever see what your Learn:Up permissions already allow, and there's no new platform to learn.
What is the MCP Server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting software to AI assistants. The Learn:Up MCP uses it to connect your Learn:Up platform to Claude or ChatGPT and many more.
Today, most admin questions start as business questions, like "Who's overdue on compliance?" or "Is Sarah ready for her review?" Answering them usually means logging in, building a filter, exporting a CSV and working through it in a spreadsheet.
With the MCP, you ask the question in your AI assistant. The assistant looks up the answer in Learn:Up and replies how you want.
Because your assistant may already be connected to other tools like Slack, Google Drive or Jira, you can use Learn:Up alongside them in one request. For example:
"Find everyone who's overdue on data protection training and draft a Slack message to their managers."
What can you use it for?
Common use cases include:
Compliance and completion reporting. See who has finished, who hasn't, and what's about to lapse. "Who's overdue on the data protection course this quarter?"
Checking on one learner. See everything a person has been assigned and how far they've got. "What has David still got outstanding before Friday?"
Content audits. Search your library of courses, learning paths and SCORM content, including what's inside a course. "What do we have on objection handling?"
People and groups. Find people, groups and managers, and who has joined recently. "Who joined in the last 60 days and what were they assigned?"
Live training. Check upcoming sessions, who's registered, the waitlist and attendance. "Who's registered for Thursday's onboarding session?"
How does it work?
There are three stages: Connect, Ask and Act.
Connect
Your AI tool workspace admin adds Learn:Up once for your organisation. Each person then connects their own account by signing in to Learn:Up.
Ask
Ask your question in natural language. The assistant picks the right Learn:Up tools, looks up your live data and replies. If you ask a follow-up question, it remembers what you were talking about.
Act
You take the answer and act on it: chase overdue learners, update an old course, or set up a automation based on the results. The MCP Server is read-only, so any changes in Learn:Up are still made by you.
Who can use the MCP Server?
At launch, the MCP Server is available to:
Employee Learning administrators. They can ask questions across the whole organisation, within what their admin role allows.
Managers
Learners
Academy administrators is coming in later releases.
đ Note: The MCP uses your existing Learn:Up permissions. Connecting an AI assistant changes how you ask, not what you can see. If your role changes in Learn:Up, what the assistant can see changes automatically.
FAQs
Which AI assistants does it work with?
We test and support Claude and ChatGPT. MCP is an open standard, so other assistants that support it may work, but we don't test them.
Can it make changes in Learn:Up?
Not yet. This release is read-only. It can't create or edit content, assign training or change due dates. Create, update and edit are planned for a later release, with delete after that. We're adding them in this order so the safeguards are in place before an AI assistant can change or remove your data.
Why did the assistant say it can't answer my question?
Some data isn't available yet, if you notice any gaps in its response please log them with us. When the assistant says it can't answer, it's being accurate rather than guessing.
Is our data used to train AI models?
No. Learn:Up doesn't use anything retrieved through the MCP Server to train AI models. Once an answer appears in your assistant, it's covered by your organisation's agreement with that AI provider.
Does it cost extra?
No. The MCP Server is included with Learn:Up.
