The Learn:Up AI Assistant Connector (MCP) lets you ask your AI assistant about your Learn:Up data in natural language. This article shows you how to get quick, accurate answers that use less of your plan.
How it works: think of a taxi ride
Three things decide how much of your AI assistant's plan a question uses. It works like a taxi fare:
What decides the cost | Taxi example | What it means |
How much data comes back | The distance | A question about one person is a short trip. A question about everyone is a long one. |
The model you choose | The type of car | Advanced models cost more per trip. Faster models cost less. |
The thinking setting | Detours the driver takes | A higher thinking setting means more steps before you get an answer. |
The distance usually matters most. A cheaper car does not help much on a very long trip, so a specific question is the best way to save.
Tips for better questions
Name the person. For example, "Show Sam Lee's progress on Onboarding 101."
Name the guide. For example, "Who is overdue on Security Awareness?"
Add a date range. For example, "Show assignments from the last 30 days."
Narrow to a team. For example, "Show overdue training for my direct reports."
Match the model to the job. Use a faster model or lower thinking setting for quick lookups, and an advanced model for analysis.
Examples
Here are some ways to make a question more specific:
Instead of this | Try this |
"Show me all training data" | "How many people finished Onboarding 101 this month?" |
"Who is behind on training?" | "Who in the Sales team is overdue on Product Basics?" |
"List every guide" | "List guides published in the last 3 months" |
If something goes wrong
The answer is too long, or the assistant forgets earlier parts of the chat. Ask again with a filter, like one guide, one team or a date range.
The answer seems incomplete. Large results can come back in pages. Narrow your question, or ask the assistant to get the next page.
