Reset a learner’s SCORM progress

J
Written by Jon Low

You can reset a learner’s progress on a SCORM course so they can take it again from the start. This is useful when a learner has failed a course, completed it but needs to redo it, or if the course is not behaving as expected.

Before you start

  • You need to be an admin.

  • The learner’s course must be Completed or Failed. You won’t see the option for courses that are in progress or not started.

  • The option isn’t available for SCORM courses from third-party content providers.

Reset a SCORM course

  1. Go to Content and open the SCORM course overview.

  2. In the list of assigned learners, find the learner.

  3. Open the menu on their row and select Reset Progress.

  4. Read the message. It explains that all SCORM progress for this learner will be cleared, including their status, score, completion date and grade.

  5. Select Reset Progress to confirm.

The learner’s status changes to Not Started.

Reset a SCORM course inside a path

If the course was assigned as part of a path, reset it from the path rather than from the course.

  1. Go to Content and open the path.

  2. Find the learner and select View Progress on their row.

  3. In the panel that opens, find the SCORM course.

  4. Open its menu and select Reset Progress.

  5. Select Reset Progress to confirm.

If the path was only marked complete because of that course, the path will no longer show as complete.

What gets reset

Reset

Status (back to Not Started)

Assigned date

Due date

Score and grade

Last accessed date

Completion date

Time spent

Number of attempts

What the learner sees

  • The course shows as Not Started.

  • It appears again on their home page with their other learning, ready to start. You don’t need to reassign it.

  • When they retake it, their new score and completion are recorded as normal.

See previous results

Resetting a course doesn’t lose its history. To see past results:

  1. Open the menu on the learner’s row and select SCORM History Logs.

  2. Look under Reset history. Each reset shows:

    • the Date

    • who it was Reset by

    • the learner’s Status, Score, Completion %, Attempts and Completed date from before the reset

Things to know

  • A reset can’t be undone. Check you’ve picked the right learner before you confirm.

  • The learner must close the course first. If they have it open, you’ll see “This learner is currently in the course. Try again once they have exited.”

  • You can only reset one learner at a time.

  • Reset Progress replaces Mark as Not Started for SCORM courses, because it also clears the learner’s saved progress inside the course.
