Create a Certification to build a learning program that issues certificates to your learners upon completion. Use Certification programs to validate customer knowledge and empower learners to share their certificates with the world.
In this article, we’ll cover:
How to create your Certification
How to set your certificate to expire and allow learners to re-certify
How to add content to your Certification
How to customize your issued certificate
How to enable LinkedIn sharing
How learners earn certificates
Creating and Customizing your Certification
To create a Certification, navigate to Academies > Pages > Certifications page and click “+ Add Certification”
Customize how learners see your Certification in the Academy user experience
Use the following settings to customize the following images:
Banner Image: This is the image displayed in the hero section at the top of your Certification page
Card Image: This is the image displayed on your Certification’s “card” in the Academy content catalog
Meta Image: This is the image displayed when learners share the link to your Certification
Badge Image: This is the image displayed for the learner's completed certificate in their My Trainings collection
Note: If creating a custom badge, we recommend a square image, regardless of actual size, with some amount of free space on all sides around the logo since the system will automatically display the Badge as a circle.
Configuring Certification Settings
Require sequential progression: You can require learners to complete the Certification modules in order, by toggling “Require sequential progression” ON.
Certification completion email notification: You can enable or disable email notifications to be sent to learners upon completing the Certification. The email will advise the learner on whether they passed and received the Certification or if they failed. To preview this email or change the copy, use our Email Customization feature here.
Visibility: You can also set your Certification to only be visible to selected user segments. Learn how to set up segments here.
Adding Content to Your Certification
Head back to your Certifications page and click “Modules” on your Certification to add content.
Add the content you want to be a part of this Certification and drag modules into the order you want learners to complete their training in.
When designing your learning programs, remember that progress and completion status of individual trainings (guides, SCORM, resources) persists across the Academy.
For example, if a learner completes a training as part of your Certification, that same training will be marked as completed in the other locations where that training lives - including other Collections, Paths, and Certifications.
Setting Certifications to expire and enabling learners to re-certify
If you want to set your Certification program to expire, for example - Certifications that are only valid for a year or need to be renewed on a recurring basis, you have 2 expiration settings available:
Expire on a specific date
Expire on a recurring basis (e.g. 365 days)
Learners will be notified that their certificate will expire when they complete the Certification and earn their certificate.
By default, once a learner’s certificate expires, they are able to review their completed trainings but they will not be able to re-certify and earn a new active certificate.
If you want to allow your learners to be able to re-certify after their certificate expires, this option is available for Certifications that expire on a recurring basis. Note that this option is not available for certifications that expire on a specific date.
For re-certification, you can either require your learners to retake all modules in the Certification or select the specific modules you want them to retake.
When giving learners the option to re-certify, remember that this will affect the status of all selected trainings (guides, SCORM, resources) across the Academy in other locations such as Collections, Paths, and other Certifications.
Learners will be able to re-certify anytime from 30 days before their certificate expires, onwards. When Recertify is clicked, the learner’s progress on all designated trainings will be reset.
You can keep track of expiration statuses on Certifications with expiration settings by going to Users > Certification Enrollments and Analytics > Certifications. On a given Certification, you’ll be able to view learners based on their most recently earned certificate:
Completion Status
Completion Date
Expiration Status
Expiration Date
Notes:
If a training module was completed in the last 30 days, the learner will not be required to complete the training again. Thus, we recommend setting certificates to expire at least 60 days out from certificate issuance.
If you have Ecommerce enabled to require payment on Certifications, you can select whether or not a learner is required to re-purchase the Certification when renewing in the Ecommerce section of the Settings page.
Customizing your issued certificate template
We offer a number of options to customize your certificate template.
To customize your overall certificate template, head to Settings > Certifications.
Customization Options:
Certification Banner Color: This is the color of the bar at the top of the Certification
Certification Issuer: This is the name of the issuing authority for your Certification
Certification Background Image: This allows you to set a default background image for all Certifications. We recommend an image sized 1796 × 1190.
Certification Logo: This allows you to add an optional logo to display at the bottom left of your certificates
Certification-specific Customization
In the settings for a selected Certification, you can also customize elements specific to that Certification:
Certificate Issuer: You have the option to designate the awarding person for the selected Certification.
Default Background Image: You have the option to upload a unique background image that overrides your default background image for the selected Certification.
Academy Admins now have another template option for their Certificates with some added flexibility to toggle the ID and description to be displayed or hidden.
You can preview what the issued certificate template looks like for any particular Certification at any time by clicking Preview Certificate in the dropdown on the Certifications page.
Publishing your Certification
Once you are ready to publish your Certification, hit Publish on your Certification settings or modules pages. You can also hit the Publish toggle on the Certifications page.
If this was your first Certification, make sure to toggle ON your Certifications page to publish your Certifications Tab in your Academy either in the Certifications page or the main "Pages" page.
How to enable LinkedIn Sharing
You can link your company's LinkedIn to your Academy so when learners add their certificate to LinkedIn, your company account will be automatically linked.
Configure your LinkedIn Organization ID
The LinkedIn Company ID is a string of numbers, usually 6 to 9 digits long, that is unique to your company.
How to find your LinkedIn Organization ID
Option 1 - You can find the Organization ID in the URL of the search results page when you select your Company on the Company dropdown on the Jobs Search page, within the f_C=XXXXXX parameter.
For example, if your URL is https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search/?currentJobId=3432830117&f_C=7166427&geoId=103644278&keywords=workramp&location=United%20States&refresh=true, your Company ID is 7166427
Option 2 - You can also find the Organization ID in the URL of the search results page when you click on See all jobs on your LinkedIn Page.
Option 3: To find your LinkedIn Organization ID as a LinkedIn Page Admin, navigate to the Admin View of the LinkedIn Page from the All Pages or Home tab. The LinkedIn Organization ID is the numbers after "/company/" in the URL.
For example, if the Admin URL for the LinkedIn Page is https://www.linkedin.com/company/8681905/admin/, the Organization ID is 8681905.
How learners access their certificates
Academy learners can access their earned certificates on their My Trainings page by clicking their profile icon in the top right.
After clicking on a certificate, the learner also has the option to copy the publicly accessible link to this certificate, download the certificate, and add the certificate to LinkedIn.
Adding the certificate to LinkedIn automatically opens up LinkedIn and auto-populates data fields to add the certification to the learner’s profile.
